Resources List For HIPAA 5010 Training And Finding Contract Trainers

HIPAA 5010 trainingTrainingFolks Healthcare Performance ImprovementInsight : With changes to HIPAA encompassing HIPAA 5010 and ICD-10 there is a requirement that healthcare providers are in compliance.  The regulation change includes:

  • Providers/physicians, including alternate site providers
  • Payers
  • Health care clearinghouses
  • Pharmacies
  • Health plans

ICD-10 is an abbreviation for "International Classification of Diseases:, Tenth Revision. It can be used to refer to Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM)  or  Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS).

As of October 1, 2013 implementation of ICD-10-CM (diagnoses) and ICD-10-PCS (procedures) must be in place in order to be comliant.

In addition, ICD-10 deadlines include –

  • Ambulatory and physician services provided on or after October 1, 2013 will use ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes
  • Inpatient discharges occurring on or after October 1, 2013 will use ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes
  • Services provided on or after October 1, 2013, ICD-9-CM codes will not be accepted
  • Prior to October 1, 2013, ICD-10 codes will not be accepted for services

With such a critical change taking place, it's important to be sure that the medical staff is trained and prepared for the change.

When constructing HIPAA 3010 training, having contract trainers who understand what is involved and how to correctly implement processes and proceedures to implement the changes needed, is valuable toward assuring compliance.
